Who Knew Walden Could Cook Thai? (video)

It’s no secret one of the reasons I wanted to visit Thailand was for the food. With a plethora of cooking schools available, we chose Siam Rice Thai Cookery School and were not disappointed.

The school is great for any level chef, as the instructions are easy to follow and make you look like a star.

We started in the market to learn about the ingredients. We saw the basics of Thai cuisine including basil, eggplant, mushrooms, lemongrass, chilis, ginger, and got to learn more about them. We spent a few minutes wandering the market. This is always a treat in any country. The fruits, meats and prepared goods were impressive.

Then we headed to the school which was in a home setting. Everything worked like clockwork and we made seven dishes.

We made the classic Tom Yum Soup, Pad Thai, Drunken noodle, papaya salad (Sam Tom Thai), fried glass noodles, spring rolls, fried holy basil, green curry, red curry, yellow curry and finally mango sticky rice!

All the dishes were delicious. We were stuffed by the end of the day and left with a recipe book. Hopefully we can find some ingredients in Tennessee to recreate our favorites.

Good job everyone!! Walden and Ella, very nice! I hope you remember what you learned – it will come in handy!!
Walden, I don’t think your dad would be able to pull that flame off in your kitchen. I was just glad his beard didn’t catch on fire. 😉

Thanks, Laura. Someone assumed I was Norwegian due to my beard until they heard me speak lol.
